What are Active Shooter Scenarios?
Active shooter scenarios refer to situations, whether real or simulated, where a person or persons are actively engaged in using firearms to inflict harm on individuals in a populated area. These scenarios are often unpredictable and unfold quickly, creating an immediate and life-threatening situation that demands a rapid response from law enforcement, security personnel, and civilians.
In training environments, active shooter scenarios are used to prepare individuals for the high-stress conditions of an actual incident. These simulations recreate environments such as schools, workplaces, or public spaces where an active shooter may attempt to cause mass casualties. Trainees learn how to identify threats, navigate chaotic environments, provide medical assistance, and utilize the “Run, Hide, Fight” strategy to improve survival chances.
