Moulage

Moulage is the art of applying mock injuries or wounds to simulate realistic trauma in training environments, enhancing preparedness for emergency responders.

What is Moulage?

Moulage involves creating life-like injuries or wounds on individuals or mannequins to simulate realistic scenarios for training. Used extensively in emergency response, medical, and tactical training, moulage provides participants with realistic visuals and textures of injuries, including cuts, burns, bullet wounds, or other trauma, to practice triage, treatment, and emergency responses.

In firearms and law enforcement training, moulage helps trainees experience and respond to conditions similar to real-life injury events. By simulating blood, wounds, or fractured limbs, moulage helps trainees overcome psychological barriers and gain experience dealing with stressful environments. This technique is especially valuable in mass-casualty simulation exercises where quick, accurate assessment and response are critical.

Creating effective moulage requires specialized knowledge of anatomy and trauma, as well as skill in makeup and prosthetics. With this method, trainers can immerse trainees in high-stress scenarios that improve response time, decision-making, and procedural accuracy, ultimately enhancing field performance and emergency readiness.
